If Chromium would be used in embedded device there would be users who think "Hmm, this could have some more effects.." as well as "Damn, I have only 10% battery left and it's wasted for these animations!" type of users.

So as a conclusion: I agree that animations should not interfere with the user tasks and instead help usability, but I also think that that the possibility to disable animations (in embedded devices) is a nice feature to offer.Kaitsu @ QUIt Codinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12803965758063269561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5674163510758480535.post-73149142930283857372009-09-30T22:33:23.064+03:002009-09-30T22:33:23.064+03:00Actually I don't think the possibility to disa...Actually I don't think the possibility to disable animations is necessary.

Animations should never interfere with the user's task; if they do, an option to disable them would be a workaround rather than a proper fix.

Chromium is a good example of a UI with animations that enhance the user's experience without getting in the way.Marius Gedminashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15155998626202067226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5674163510758480535.post-15565296068174872582009-09-30T21:46:32.840+03:002009-09-30T21:46:32.840+03:00Marius: I totally agree, it must be possible for u...Marius: I totally agree, it must be possible for user to disable all extra animations which are not directly related usability (and the rest _must_ be fast enough not to disturb).Kaitsu @ QUIt Codinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12803965758063269561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5674163510758480535.post-51092442521618065142009-09-30T18:38:25.350+03:002009-09-30T18:38:25.350+03:00It looks awesome!

It's important not to make the user wait for the animation. The total duration of the animation should be limited to a fixed number of milliseconds (for some reason the number 0.4s is popping into my head).Marius Gedminashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15155998626202067226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5674163510758480535.post-60639085765919959812009-09-29T08:34:10.140+03:002009-09-29T08:34:10.140+03:00think-free: Noup, sources are too ugly right now, ...think-free: Noup, sources are too ugly right now, just enough to demo how it works and to ask for ideas. I want to make the widget general (widget size, amount of tabs etc.) but not doing it until I get the final idea what it could/should be like... And for that I'm asking ideas now =)

For example where could the labels of each tab be and how to animate them on/off?

LK: Would it? For me this feels "natural", panning the screen so that you "throw yourself" to next tab... But this was a good comment, I was actually thinking that maybe tabs could even have hidden/autohide mode: Once user has learned how to pan between tabs and where each tab is located, content could take whole screen/widget area and only show which tab you are moving to as an animated overlay. So "This movement doesn't seem to make sense" is good to know =)

Tim: Thanks, I'm checking now each of them and try to get ideas!Kaitsu @ QUIt Codinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12803965758063269561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5674163510758480535.post-77457911230944700092009-09-29T03:45:45.722+03:002009-09-29T03:45:45.722+03:00Cool.
